Dancing Pencils won a tender put out by the Free State Department of Education to train 10 grade 3 children in each of five districts in the Free State so that they were able to write their own books.

Felicity Keats used right brain methods, to the amazement of subject advisors who looked on as children very seriously gave themselves to the task. Children wrote in five different languages – sesotho, setswana, xhosa, isizulu and Afrikaans – and illustrated the books themselves.

They also titled their stories as they wished. It took six months to get the books ready for publication, the final gesture being a visit, on the 8th February, by Felicity and Ndiphile from Dancing Pencils in Durban to join the subject advisors in Bloemfontein to get everything perfect.

The launch is scheduled for 22nd February. These little authors will read their books to senior management and to the MEC, Education, of the Free State. They will be SO excited to see their books, with their pictures on the back, and complete with ISBN numbers.
