The competition took place in Kwasizabantu Mission in KwaMaphumulo on the 6th of June 2019.

They were 19th schools from local districts participated on the competition of spelling big English words. Kids show their capabilities and the judges ran out of the words during the final elimination stage.

This was when they had to be number one and two. They opted to use words not from the list submitted to schools for the competition. But still, kids kept getting them correct. Until Pietermaritzburg was used and the second runner missed the “R” and lost the battle.

Miss Ciara Valentine (11) was the event’s guest speaker. She’s the author of the two right brain books produced by the Dancing Pencils Literacy Development Project under the Treaven Junior Dancing Pencils Club ran by Felicity Keats (Club mentor) in Malvern at Dancing Pencils headquarters-KZN.

It was attended by high profile education people from the iLembe District Municipality and Mrs P.N Sikhosana whose the circuit manager Balcom’s Hill. All were amused by inspiring Ciara’s speech as well as the talents and wisdom shown by learners from these various participated schools.

The event was organised by Mzikayise Ndlovu Foundation in partnership with the local radio station called Ikhwezi FM. Later, Ayanda Hlabisa, our publicist was interviewed by Ikhwezi as well as Ciara our kid author was interviewed by this radio station. The foundation is reffered to by its founder, Mr Mzikayise Ndlovu from the area of KwaMaphulo.
