Their stories are now being originated into six anthologies to be launched in a National Launch in Durban provisionally to take place on July 2nd. These schools committed in year 2017 that they wanted writing clubs like a local school that has won National Best Publication with NDA in SA Early Childhood Development Awards, 2018, that’s Sogidi Primary School DPLDP Writing Club from Ilembe district.

A total of six principals attended the planning workshop by Dancing Pencils Literacy Development Project held at Dalibo Primary School in Tongaat, KZN.

Mrs Veena Gangaram and Ayanda Hlabisa trained 15 learners from two schools each day. This is part of a Lotto project and takes place at Dalibo Primary school. Veena Gangaram and Ayanda Mazibuko Hlabisa repeated this on the 8,9 and 10 March 2021.. All the stories will go in six school anthologies to be launched in Durban on 2nd July.

This small right brain writing and publishing project in the Ilembe District for 6 schools had five events principals briefing with NLC provincial manager present and the Nzuze DoE, circuit manager. The principals of the schools were introduced to the value of right brain creative writing in uplifting literacy levels. On Tuesday (02 March 2021) the teachers from five of the participating schools had a workshop giving them the torch to shine the path to a love of writing and reading amongst their learners by Mrs Felicity Keats, founder of Umsinsi and Dancing Pencils.

Included in the project are teachers packs of training material along with copies of child authored books with which to enthuse their learners.

These trainings were divided into four sessions:

Amabutho primary school educator with a pack of training manuals plus a copy of ‘Duma Says’ by Nathi Ngubane.
  1. Day 1 : Educators (training as mentors)
  2. Day 2,3 & 4 : 15 learners per six participating schools.
    Day 1: 2 March, Educators workshop
    Day 2: 8 March, Noordsberg & Dalibo P. School
    Day 3: 9 March Qhubakahle & Deda P. School
    Day 4: 10 March, Mshwathi & Amabutho P. School
