Sogidi Celebrates World Water Month 2019

Sogidi Grade 6 Learners on Stage

The Dancing Pencils team of three, Felicity Keats (Founder), Ayanda Hlabisa (Publicist) as well as Makhosi Sifiso Thembani attended a World Water Day Celebration organised by the KZN Department of Environmental Affairs in Bhamsheshela, Ndwendwe-KZN. This event was held in one of the Dancing Pencils Writing Clubs called the Sogidi Primary School Dancing Pencils Writing Club. The school won the South African Best Publication of the Year Award last year organised by the National Development Agency (NDA) for its 2017 title called “Kancane Kancane Sekuyasa”. Department of Environmental Affairs encourage learners, particularly from this school and across to write “environmental stories” to enhance environmental awareness among-st the society for the better and livable societies.

Ayanda Hlabisa (Pictured) shared the success of the school’s award winning which was held last year in Limpopo with parents and the School Governing Body (SGB) present at the celebration today.He complimented the kids for the work well-done, their parents for instilling discipline to the kids which results to the most creative art works like the one that led to the winning of the award and most of its annual published anthology of short stories published yearly. Parents thanked Felicity with vegetables.

Nokuthula Sibisi had these words to sayThank you Dancing Pencils team .Your presence made our day . Water is life stories are coming” We have been donating books to this club and they discovered their creative right brain methodology when Dr Zweli Mkhize was still the KZN Premier and sponsored the Dancing Pencils Project in it which featured Sogidi as well. This school never looked back even when there was no funding. Thank Madam principal and your committed team and club mentors as well as your School Governing Body (SGB)
