SUCCESSFUL YEAR 2021 BEYOND LIMITS

THE ILEMBE DISTRICT CHILDREN’S LITERATURE PROJECT WAS SUCCESSFUL. DEDA PRIMARY SCHOOL WRITING CLUB WITH MENTORS, NLC REP, MS. KHANYA AND DANCING PENCILS, AYANDA HLABISA, 23 SEP, 2021, OPEN AIR SCHOOL, DBN.

The dancing pencils literacy development project was launched in the Hilton hotel on 31 July 2002 – just short of twenty years ago. I have been fully involved and committed to helping develop literacy particularly in deep rural areas for all these years.

However there comes the time to say goodbye and I have officially resigned from the board of Dancing Pencils. There is a committee of 6 other directors who will be having their Christmas meeting at the home of board member and director, Detlev Diegel, on the 12 December where I will officially leave office.

FEILCITY WITH KID-AUTHOR LAUNCHING BOXER SPONSORED BOOK

I would like to assure you that there will be ongoing help as I propose that Ayanda Hlabisa who has been with me for five years, takes over the chief role. Ayanda cares deeply about literacy and has met or been in contact with most of you and will continue to help you in any way possible.

Perhaps mainly due to the Covid problems there were no submissions for printing from clubs this year though we were granted a small Lotto project which allowed us to train six schools in Ilembe and to publish for them. Their launch took place in the hall of the Open-Air school on the 23rd of September. We are completing the Lotto project now and it seems possible that Lotto may fund you again next year as they were impressed with the standard of writing done by the children who were taught the right brain method.

A few clubs shown interest in publishing were Isulabasha Writing Club (Nkandla municipality), Lerato Dancing Pencils Writing Club (TUT Tshwane, GP). Lerato club is finalizing 2021 book, and Sogidi who despite the trying times we facing as globe, they successfully submitted their stories for 2021 publication. We congratulate the SOGIDI Writing Club for their outstanding performance, beautiful stories and poems, and their notable commitment writing and reading, thank you Mrs. N. Sibisi, principal and Ms. J. Myeni, club mentor and all mentors contributing to Sogidi Primary School writing club’s successes, that have seen the club winning NDA SAECD Best Publication in 2017/18 awards.

Ayanda will oversee publishing and all your queries need to be addressed to him. I will still be helping him when he needs it but I am reverting to authorship and to training children via Zoom and also training new mentors via zoom.  This I can do very easily from my own home. Currently I am giving free trainings to teachers in Ilembe district, and it is quite amazing that they can develop so quickly into professional writers!

So, in closing let me thank you for your commitment to helping others and to working with me. I have enjoyed our time together but know that Ayanda and his new team will provide you with inspirational material!  The newsletter may continue in this format, or it may change.

Meantime, may you have a peaceful and blessed Christmas and New Year.

Thank you
